Granby Primary School

Nursery Admissions

Parents who wish their child to be considered for a place at Granby Primary School’s Nursery, should ensure that they place their child’s name on the Nursery List soon after their child’s second birthday. Acceptance is based on availability of places and the following criteria:

  1. Pupils who are in the care of the Local Authority
  2. Pupils who are on the list of children subject to child protection plans and need to attend an alternative school to avoid the abuser
  3. Pupils who live in the priority area of the school
  4. Pupils who have siblings already attending the same school
  5. Pupils living in the area of a closed school
  6. Pupils whose parents base their application on religious convictions
  7. Children of parents/carers fleeing domestic violence (subject to verification by a senior social worker or current City Council procedures for housing reallocation in cases of recognised domestic violence).
  8. Pupils who live nearest the school (measured in a straight line).

When you apply for a nursery place you will be asked if you would prefer a morning or afternoon session. Where the requests for a particular session are greater than the places available, priority will be given according to the priorities listed above.

30 hours free funding

All 3 and 4-year-olds in England already get 15 hours a week, or 570 hours a year of free early education. If their parents are living and working in England, 3 and 4-year-olds may be entitled to 30 hours free childcare. An extra 570 hours of free childcare a year, so 1140 hours in total. 30 hours free childcare will be available from September 2017. The eligibility criteria are the same as the ones for Tax-Free Childcare, except you can continue to get these types of support at the same time as 30 hours free childcare:

 tax credits
 Universal Credit
 childcare vouchers or salary sacrifice schemes
 childcare grants and bursaries

When you apply, you'll be confirming that you need childcare so that you and your partner, if you have one, can work. If your child's already in a full-time reception class in a state funded school, you won't be eligible for 30 hours free childcare.

Do I qualify?

The following guide can be used to identify if you may be eligible for 30 hours free childcare. Answering yes to these questions does not guarantee parents are eligible – you will still need to register and present us with an eligible DERN code to qualify. If you are able to answer yes to all 4 of these questions, this is a good indication that you might qualify for 30 hours:

1. Are you, and your partner (if applicable), both in employment?

2. Do you, and your partner (if applicable), both earn a weekly wage that is equivalent to 16 hours at National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage? From April 2017 this equates to:
 £120.00 pw if aged 25+ years
 £112.80 pw if aged 21-24 years
 £ 89.60 pw if aged 18-20 years
 £ 64.80 pw if aged 16 – 17 years

3. Do you, or your partner (if applicable), both earn less than £100, 000 per person, per year?

4. Do you have parental responsibility for the child you are enquiring about?

Extended Nursery Provision

We are delighted that we can now offer extended nursery provision for those children who have either a morning or an afternoon place in our nursery. This service will enable parents to drop their child for morning nursery at 8.45 am, collecting them at the end of afternoon nursery, at 3.30pm. There are facilities for children to have a nap in our sleep room if needed. The cost for this is £12 per session and children need to bring a packed lunch with them. Please ask at the office for availability.
