The aim of the Granby PTA is to arrange exciting and reasonably-priced events for the children and the school community as a whole. Our motto is “for the enjoyment of the children” and creating fun is our priority! Any money we raise in the process goes towards buying things for the children of Granby. The current chairperson of the PTA is Jane Dalton. 

Over the last few years we have organised a number of different events:

Easter Bingo   A great hit with all generations

Fashion Show   The children love the modelling and the parents love the bargains!

Halloween Disco   Fantastic fun for the children and parents get a couple of hours off

Christmas Cards   The children’s designs are made into cards which can be purchased by parents

The Christmas Present Room   Children choose and buy a surprise present for their parents

Cookie Sale   Warm chocolate chip cookies, delicious at home time on a cold winter’s day

Bags2School   Teaches children the value of recycling whilst raising money for the school

Ice Cream Sale   A very popular event at the end of the summer term!

PTA money pays, on an ongoing basis, for the running of the school minibus. It has also paid for the repair of the Nursery’s rocking horse and the school’s kiln, as well as the purchase of the African drum set for the music room. More recently we paid for all the cooking equipment that the children are now using in their cooking lessons. Also, we bought, designed and assembled the 125 years of Granby School commemorative gift that the children received. In previous years funds have also gone towards the cost of outdoor play equipment.

In 2017, the PTA made a substantial contribution to the astroturf and canopy, allowing children some outdoor PE space whatever the weather. In 2018, the PTA bought the Murphy Cabin: an additional space for school group work and lots of activities. The cabin is heated, floored and has electricity. At Christmas 2021, the PTA paid for the whole school to go to the pantomime at De Montfort Hall: a much-needed treat after all the disruptions caused by Covid-19!

Any parent, carer or grandparent with a positive attitude can get involved. If you would like to do so, please speak to any of the PTA members you may already know or leave your details at the office. The dates of our meetings are published in the school’s newsletter and you would be very welcome to join us. Any level of help is extremely appreciated, from being a committee member or event organiser to simply helping at events. We always need cake bakers, hot dog sellers, tea makers, sweet sellers, money counters and strawberry sauce squeezers.

Finally, can we say thank you to all the parents and families of the children at Granby who turn up, whatever the weather and whatever the hour, ready to support the school and our events. Most of all, thank you to the children of Granby - when we see the fun they are having, it confirms we are doing something right.
