6H Kestrels

Welcome to the Kestrels Class Page

In our class, Miss Hopps is the class teacher, and sometimes Miss Goulty. We also have Mrs Johnson and Miss Matchett as our assistant teachers. On this page you will be able to see information about what we are learning, and any exciting trips and activities that we are fortunate enough to attend. We hope that you enjoy your time here.

NSPCC Number Day - kestrels had great fun playing maths games and solving puzzles

In PE we have been doing gymnastic. We have made sequences of travelling and jumping using low apparatus.

In science we have been learning about classification, and about influential scientists Aristotle and Linnaeus. We have also worked on classifying sweets, to help us to understand how the taxonomy of living creatures has developed.

Art - we have had fun and designing. We have made clay tiles to commemorate World War One, and made Lino cut prints of rivers and canals

Each week, Kestrels read with the Ladybirds class from year 2. They are really helpful to their reading buddies, and help them to become better readers 😊.

The Kestrels had an amazing time sharing their pop-up books with year 1! It’s safe to say, they all had a good time.

Kestrels had an amazing time at Warning Zone, learning all about how to stay safe in the world

DT - Pop-up Books: we have made pop-up books that we’re looking forward to sharing with year 1

Mount Cook

At the beginning of the school year, most children from Kestrels class spent five days together in the Peak District in Derbyshire, at Mount Cook Residential Centre. Whilst we were there, we were able to enjoy some incredible new experiences. Pupils were able to learn new skills, show their determination, and challenge themselves.

RE: Fairness and Justice

In RE we are learning all about fairness and justice. We have done some role play to think about the fairest way to deal with difficult situations, by putting ourselves in to a problematic scenario to understand how we would feel.
